The Unexplored History of Sinhgad Fort


We all know about the place Sinhgad near Pune, but do we really know about the history of Sinhgad Fort. Here you can explore the history of Sinhgad Fort: "The Lion Fort".

Sinhgad Fort is around 30kms from Pune. It is a situated near around 700m from the surrounding countryside. By looking at the Kondheshwar temple and the caves we can say that the fort was built 2000 years ago.

Sinhgad was before named as Kondhana Fort. The famous battle of Sinhgad was started in 1670’s between Mughal and Maratha’s.  It was won by Shivaji Maharaj by his right-hand man “Tanaji Malusare” from Mughal’s. 

Tanaji Malusare sacrifices his son’s marriage to win the fort. During the battle, he lost his life and his brother took over the fort. At that time Shivaji Maharaj said a line “Gad Aala, Pn Sinha Gela”.
